MICAH NETWORK PRESS RELEASE

Micah Network releases a new CD, Our Sins - a compilation of worship and reflective music on the theme of justice and poverty.

Worship music which reflects God’s heart for justice

When the Micah Challenge – a global Christian campaign was launched in India in 2004, prominent Indian bible teacher, C.B. Samuel, spoke of justice being not just “a program of the church” but “the very heart of God.” In the process he pointed out the lack of worship music that reflects this core aspect of God’s nature and gave a call for new worship songs to be written.

A couple of years later, at Micah Network’s triennial global consultation in Chiang Mai, Thailand, a group of young musicians gathered and responded to CB’s call. Joining with 325 Christian workers from 52 countries for this consultation, the musicians penned new songs each afternoon and recorded them at the conclusion of the consultation.

“The result is an inspired collection of worship and reflective music which reflects God’s heart for compassion, mercy and justice, and which calls on the global church to respond accordingly” said Micah Network’s International Coordinator, Jane Furniss.

The international group of songwriters and musicians included Helen Mottee (Australia), Leonard Alvarez (Chile), Stefan Eicher (India), Luca Hansen (USA) and Dave Khai (USA/ Thailand).

Artwork on theme of justice included in album booklet

Christian artists from the Limner Society also came together a week before the Global Consultation, for a 5-day painting workshop on the theme of justice and the poor. The resulting works were exhibited during the consultation, alongside artwork produced earlier by a group of Indian artists, called ‘Creative Conscience,’ on the theme of religious violence. This artwork has been reproduced in the cover design and album booklet.

Background information

The musicians have donated proceeds from the CD to the Micah Network, a global network of Christian relief, development and justice NGOs and churches from 76 countries. www.micahnetwork.org

Copies of the CD can be obtained from Micah Network and we are also looking for member agencies to distribute the CD in their countries.
