WEA adopts Call to Action on HIV

Micah Network welcomes the news that the World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly adopted a Call to Action on HIV on October 29 2008. The Call to Action on HIV was drafted during the recent Micah Network consultation on Churches Living with HIV by WEA representatives attending that meeting.

4th Triennial Global Consultation on Climate Change, Kenya, 13-18 July 2009

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Micah Network is pleased to announce that the 4th Triennial Global Consultation on Climate Change will be held from July 13 -18, 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya. Work is well underway to finalise the venue and costs. Please mark these dates on your calendar and we hope to provide you with more information very soon.

The Global Network seeking participation of Micah Network member organisations

We have been asked by the Global Network, an international network of NGOs sharing information and knowledge on disaster risk reduction, to circulate the following information.
The Global Network are seeking the participation of organisations from one of the participating regions and countries (please refer to participating regions and countries template attached to confirm eligibility) in any of the following roles:

  • National Coordinating Organisation (NCO)
  • Regional Coordinating Organisation (RCO)
  • Survey work

Please refer to the attached briefing sheet for more information on these opportunities.
Expressions of interest or any enquiries should be directed to Marcus Oxley, marcus.oxley@globalnetwork-dr.org. The original deadline of 31 July has been extended to close of business Wednesday 6 August.

Micah Network Disability Forum

The newly established Micah Network Disability Forum has approximately 45 members, and is designed to facilitate information and resource sharing between disability specialists and others whose programs involve disability.

Draft Terms of Reference

1. Name: Micah Network Disability Forum

2. Purposes:

  • to link Micah Network members working on or concerned with disability
  • to advocate on disability inclusion as a critical development and ministry issue for Micah Network members and the broader community
  • to share information, learnings, strategies and resources (eg technical support publications, theological reflections, case studies, good practices, policy and briefing papers and training materials) to better equip one another to respond to disability
  • to link and integrate disability and development practice
  • to develop the Micah Network website section on disability as a resource for information sharing, case studies, reflection and learning on disability http://en.micahnetwork.org/home/resources/disability
  • to provide a space for fellowship and prayer for our work on disability
  • to provide a space for development and dissemination of theological reflection on disability in different cultural and contextual settings
  • to develop good practice guidelines and other resources where needed
  • to act as a resource for the wider Micah Network member base (eg capacity building, speaking into the church and advocacy)

3. Scope:

Perhaps six topics of discussion/ information exchange:

  • Sharing learnings and best practices (case studies, guidelines etc)
  • Collaborative research
  • Staff training and exchanges
  • News and event updates (eg news and collaboration opportunities from other networks, coalitions, Australian Disability and Development Coalition, etc)
  • Sharing Resources (print, film and music, poems, drama scripts, arts & crafts)
  • Sharing ideas on fundraising methods, advocacy skills

4. Modes of discussion

  • Email: the main mode, incorporating listserver, email discussion techniques and web archive of postings and resources (Dgroups)
  • Website: key resources to be accessible on Micah Network website (Disability section)
  • Teleconference/skype etc: secondary mode for sub-group project work and focused discussions
  • Face to face: At Micah Network Consultations (eg October 2007, A Christian Response to the Marginalised, Malaysia) and strategic consultations on key issues
